Republican Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation Dedicated to World Tuberculosis Day.

On 20 March 2024, a Republican Scientific and Practical Conference with International Participation dedicated to World Tuberculosis Day is being held in Almaty under the theme “We Can End TB!”.

The conference is organized by the National Scientific Center of Phthisiopulmonology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan Association of Phthisiopulmonologists, the Global Fund Grant Implementation Unit for the Tuberculosis Component in Kazakhstan for 2023–2025, the representative office of the NGO Partners In Health, the National Partnership “Stop TB in Kazakhstan,” the MAD Consulting Public Foundation, and the Kazakhstan Union of People Living with HIV.

The purpose of today’s conference is to remind everyone of the need to respond effectively to current challenges in line with the theme of World TB Day 2024: “Yes! We Can End TB!”

Welcoming remarks were delivered by Gulnara Yedilovna Sarsenbayeva, Deputy Director of the Department of Medical Care Organization of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Laila Tursynbekovna Imangaliyeva, Head of the Division for Treatment and Prevention Activities, Monitoring, Analysis, Digitalization and Public Services of the Almaty Public Health Department.

Malik Moldabekovich Adenov, Director of the National Scientific Center of Phthisiopulmonology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, spoke about Kazakhstan’s contribution to the global fight against tuberculosis.

Sairankul Zhuzbayevna Kassymbekova, Head of the Clinical Monitoring Department at the Kazakh Scientific Center of Dermatology and Infectious Diseases, spoke about cooperation between HIV and TB services, their achievements and opportunities for further improvement.

Among the important guests of the conference were people affected by tuberculosis, who openly shared their success stories.

Non-governmental organizations also play an important role in the fight against TB. Madiyar Abdilov, Coordinator of the Meirimdi Zhol Public Foundation, spoke about their contribution.

Gulsara Rakimetollayevna Suleimenova, Head of the Specialized Services Integration Department at City Polyclinic No. 17 of the Almaty Public Health Department, shared the achievements of primary health care services in detecting and treating tuberculosis.

The conference concluded with presentations by international partners. Askar Yedilbayev, WHO Regional Adviser on TB and drug-resistant TB, delivered a presentation entitled “Building the Foundations for TB Elimination in the WHO European Region: A New Action Plan for 2023–2030.” Andrei Moshnyaga, Regional Adviser at the Secretariat of the Stop TB Partnership in Geneva, spoke about the goals and objectives of the Stop TB Partnership and the implementation of the End TB Strategy worldwide.

At the end of the conference, all participants received certificates.
